He was a little taller than she and a bit unkempt. She was pretty, but not what you would call beautiful. They seemed to care deeply for each other, he especially so as he put his arm around her and drew her in closer. They were ordering a sandwich at Subway.
“Why did they order all that greasy cold-cut stuff for their sandwich”, I discretely asked my wife? He continued to pull her close to him. Doesn’t he care that they are in a public place?
Their sandwich did look a bit better when the tomatoes, lettuce and trimmings were added. I wondered if they were college students. It didn’t look like they had much. I guess that is why they ordered a six-inch sub instead of a 12 inch. They took their sandwich and left the store.
We added chips and cookies to our order. The charge was just over $2.00. Is that the total, I asked the cashier? “Yes”, she said, “that girl ahead of you paid for your sandwich.”
I barely made it to the door to wave a “Thank You.” They waved back and I pondered upon the foolish negative thoughts I had made: . . . for man looketh upon the outward appearance, but the Lord looketh on the heart (1 Samuel 16:7).
A lesson was learned, my heart was full of gratitude and my faith renewed in our younger generation!
